Arrival information
Students can arrive in Bucaramanga by land or air, through the Palo Negro International Airport, located 20 kilometers from the municipal head of Bucaramanga, or through the Terrestrial Transport Terminal located within the city, which operates 24 hours a day.
Before the trip, it is necessary to clearly define the dates in order to anticipate the necessary logistics for their reception at the airport or bus terminal. Normally, we cannot guarantee official transportation service on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. For this reason, we suggest taking a yellow taxi, which costs approximately 45,000 Colombian pesos (USD $10-15), or a shared white taxi, which costs 13,000 Colombian pesos (USD $4). The latter drops passengers off in the city center, where they can take another yellow taxi to reach their hotels and accommodations for a minimal cost. In some cases, passengers can negotiate with the driver to be taken directly to their destinations for an additional low cost (More details can be found in the "Guide for Foreigners" document provided to our visitors).
Lodging
UIS does not provide accommodation; therefore, visiting students must select their housing with the support of an assigned partner.
It is recommended to live near the university campus where you will be studying (Principal or Facultad de salud).
Similarly, as the university cannot cover the accommodation expenses of foreign students, names of hotels or possible places of residence are suggested before their trip to Colombia so they can make the corresponding reservation. (More details can be found in the "Guide for Foreigners" document provided to our visitors).
Regarding academics and researchers, they can count on the support of the IEU-funded tickets.
Dood
UIS offers undergraduate visiting students the possibility to access three (3) daily meals at the student cafeteria of the División de Bienestar Universitario, under the same low-cost conditions offered to UIS students. The service is available on weekdays from Monday to Friday, throughout the academic semester in which the mobility takes place, on the main campus.
On weekends and holidays, the University does not offer this service, so students must have resources to cover their meals.
Monthly costs
The monthly cost of accommodation, meals, and transportation in Bucaramanga for a student ranges between USD $450 and USD $550, approximately, and between USD $700 and USD $800 for academics and researchers.
Special conditions
Most of our buildings have elevators, access ramps, and programs for people with hearing and visual disabilities.
